New Direction - Gang Prevention and Intervention

Services targeted to youth at-risk and youth involved with the criminal justice system

  • employment readiness
  • mental health counselling
  • life skills training
  • mentorship

Gang Intervention and Prevention Program
Focuses on providing support to youth 12-20 years who are at-risk/involved in gang related activities to ensure they remain out of the criminal justice system by providing:

  • client-centered and solution-oriented counselling
  • life skills and employment readiness workshops
  • mentoring and tutoring sessions

Breakthrough Intervention Program (funded by Ministry of the Solicitor General)

Targets young adults 18-39 in Peel Region who are directly or indirectly involved in crimes related to guns, gangs and human trafficking, addressing:

  • exposure to family/friends involved in gangs
  • early onset of delinquent behaviours; substance use
  • lack of meaningful job opportunities; academic failure
  • lack of social and economic opportunities

Promoting Unity, Leadership and Social Engagement (PULSE)

  • community reintegration
  • social and communication skills
  • conflict resolution; teamwork
  • education and training; employment readiness
  • mental health support

Together We Can - Youth Employment Skills Strategy (YESS), [email protected]

For youth and young adults 15-30 years who are out of school, unemployed, legally entitled to work in Canada and looking to develop employability skills

  • job search assistance
  • resume and cover letter skills; interview techniques
  • skills development
  • career exploration; workplace opportunity

Navigating the Canadian Labour Market (NCLM) - assists newcomers and internationally trained professionals become employable in Canada, create an effective job search plan and learn about employer expectations

  • provides needs assessment and customized action plan on career planning
  • facilitates workshops on Canadian workplace culture, resume writing, interview skills, pre-employment training and networking events
  • one-on-one job search coaching and mentoring
  • post-program follow-up and support, and job leads
  • access to computers, printers, telephones, fax machines, photocopiers, Internet

Youth Crisis Counselling - provides mental health supports, crisis intervention to youth 12-21 years who are experiencing school, emotional, and/or behavioural challenges

Information and Awareness Services - helps newcomers settle including information and orientation on issues such as

  • immigration, health, education and housing
  • translation and interpretation
  • form filling
  • referrals to government and community resources ; monthly information seminars
  • supportive counselling for individuals and families
Eligibility
Youth at risk or involved with the criminal justice system;
Gang Intervention and Prevention Program: focuses on youth 12-20 years who are at-risk of, or involved in gang related activities; Breakthrough Intervention Program: young adults 18-39 in Peel Region who are directly or indirectly involved in crimes related to guns, gangs and human trafficking; Together We Can: Canadian citizens, permanent residents or Convention refugees 15-30 years who are out of school, unemployed and legally entitled to work in Canada; Youth Crisis Counselling: youth 12-20 years; NCLM/Information and Awareness: newcomers to Canada
