Violence Against Women Services

Supportive community-based emergency shelter and support services includes shelter, crisis intervention, counselling, safety planning, and support group programs for women and their children

Emergency shelter (capacity 30)
Includes counselling, referrals, court and immigration escort, advocacy and assistance with housing, welfare, immigration, medical and legal services, transitional and housing support and follow-up, children's programs, community outreach

Transitional and Housing Support Program
Counselling, crisis intervention, safety planning, assistance obtaining affordable housing, and follow-up

Women and Communities Against Violence (WACAV)
Builds and strengthens linkages between under-serviced areas, support service providers and shelters

Direct client services include:
  • one-to-one support, crisis intervention and safety planning
  • information and referral
  • accompaniment and advocacy
  • assistance in obtaining services
  • development of support networks
Outreach and home visits: services provided in various community locations
Shelter: women 16 years and older, leaving abusive relationships, with or without children

Women and Communities Against Violence: women 16 years and older, leaving shelters or living in abusive relationships, focus on under-served ethnospecific communities

Residency Requirements: Shelter: Greater Toronto Area; Women and Communities Against Violence: North York, Scarborough, former City of York, and Rexdale
